Doctor arrested for wife’s death; court declines bail

Berhampur: A doctor was Saturday sent to jail after a local court here rejected his bail petition in connection with the death of his wife last year.

After remaining incommunicado for nearly seven months, the accused husband identified as Dr Anjan Dash surrendered before SDJM court in Chhatrapur Saturday morning. However, he was sent to jail as his bail petition was rejected.

Earlier, Anjan Dash’s father, mother, elder brother and sister in-law had procured anticipatory bail in this case.

Worth mentioning, mutilated body of Dr Dash’s wife Dr Archana was recovered from railway tracks near Chatrapur Railway station August 17 last year. The medical practitioner allegedly jumped before a speeding train to end her life.

Archana who was staying with her parents at Chhatrapur was serving as a doctor at Sundarpur primary health centre (PHC).

The parents of Archana had alleged that she had returned to their home as she was unable to bear the torture meted out by her in-laws.

“Recently, my daughter had received a notice from Bhubaneswar Family Court. The allegations leveled against her were all made-up. She was under duress post receipt of the notice. Besides, her in-laws had been torturing my daughter since long,” Raghunath Dash, father of the deceased had alleged.

Archana was married to Dr Anjan Dash five years ago who worked as a cardiac anesthesiologist at a private hospital in Gajapati Nagar area in Bhubaneswar.
