Doctor transferred for demanding bribe

Bolangir: A doctor in the Titlagarh sub-divisional hospital of this district has been transferred to the district hospital after he allegedly demanded bribe and misbehaved with three youngsters.

As per reports, three youths visited the hospital for ‘fitness certificate’ for their job applications. However, the doctor Krushna Chandra Pal allegedly demanded Rs 1,500 and when the youths refused to pay, the doctor misbehaved with them. He allegedly tore the papers when they refused to pay the bribe.

“When we asked Pal for the certificates, he asked us to pay Rs 1,500 (Rs 500 each). When we refused, he tore our papers,” said one of the complainants, Krupasindhu Mahanand.

While the doctor declined to comment on the issue, Titlagarh SDMO Sujata Misha said doctors have the right to ask fees for certificates.

“Doctors can ask for fees for issuing certificates but cannot use force. Tearing the papers and misbehaving with the youths are not acceptable,” she said.

Meanwhile, Bolangir CDMO Satyanendra Mishra said that an investigation into the incident is on.

“Pal has been transferred to the district hospital following the incident and action will be taken after investigation,” said Mishra.
