Bhapur: As many as six families were rendered homeless in a massive fire breakout at Kainthapokhari village under this block in Nayagarh district Saturday morning.
While the exact reason of the fire was not yet ascertained, locals suspected it was due to short-circuit. Valuables worth lakhs of rupees including 10 rooms, household items, electronic gadgets and many important documents were reduced to ashes.
The affected people were Laxman Sahu, Pitabash Sahu, Ratnakar Sahu, Pratap Chandra Sahu, Subrat Sahu and Nityananda Sahu.
Sources said, the fire broke out at the house of Pitabash. Soon, it spread to neighbouring houses before the locals could douse the flames. The intensity of the fire was so high that it engulfed 10 rooms in a few minutes.
On being informed, Bhapur tehsildar Trupti Mohanty reached the spot and launched a probe. Marada revenue inspector Bibhuti Behera distributed polythene sheets for temporary houses to the affected families.
