Jajpur: In what might be a major archaeological breakthrough, fossils of an ancient animal were found at a village under Dharmasala police limits in Jajpur district Monday.
Locals reported the sighting at Radhanagar village and informed the officials. Later, a team of officials arrived at the village and launched a study. Also, founder of Gajaraj Museum in Dharmasala, Nrusingha Charan Sahoo, rushed to the site and took a look at the fossils.
The animal apparently existed thousands of years ago, as per preliminary observations.
The fossils were found during excavation made for the repair work on the river embankment. Digging around 35 ft deep, the locals noticed the presence of fossils of an animal.
