Bhubaneswar: Hockey Gangpur crashed out of the VIIIth Junior Women’s Hockey National Championships (Division A) after a 0-2 defeat Friday at the hands of Hockey Jharkhand in the semifinals at Bhopal.
Jharkhand were bolstered by the joining of Salima Tete, who was the part of the Indian national team who finished runners-up in the recently-concluded Youth Olympic Games Qualifiers in Bangkok and dominated the match right from the start. She made her presence felt with a strike in the 17th minute which gave Jharkhand the lead.
Despite creating quite a few chances, the Gangpur eves failed to capitalise. A resilient Jharkhand defence also held firm throughput the game. Pinkki Ekka doubled the lead for Jharkhand 10 minutes before the final hooter.
Gangpur will play their bronze medal match against Uttar Pradesh Hockey, Saturday.
Odisha hold FHFC
Sports Hostel, Odisha played out an exciting 3-3 draw Friday against Fateh Hyderabad FC (FHFC) in their U-18 Youth League encounter in Shillong. Raman Mallah (18th, 69th) and Arun Minz (40th) scored the goals for Odisha. Odisha will next play against Aizawl FC Sunday.
Speaking after the match, Odisha coach Abani Mohanty said, “It’s unfortunate that we could not win the game but we will come back stronger and try to emerge victorious against Aizawl.
