Rourkela: All members of a family had a narrow escape as a cooking gas cylinder exploded while cooking in the kitchen of a house at Madhusudanpali here in Sundargarh district late Saturday night.
One member of the family escaped death with minor injuries, reports said. He has been identified as Ashok Behera. Ashok was rescued and admitted to the local government hospital.
The thunder sound due to the explosion was so huge that locals had to literally run out of their houses.
Fire broke out in the house following the explosion which threatened to engulf the house and spread to adjacent buildings. Luckily, a fire tender team reached the spot and doused the blaze before it could spread elsewhere. The firefighters then took out the cylinder from the house.
However, three rooms of the house were completely devastated due to the explosion.
The incident comes in the wake of damage of around 50 houses and the death of two women following explosion inside a house stocked with crackers here.
After getting information, Plant Site police reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
