Bhubaneswar: The state government Friday ruled out any side effects of Measles-Rubella vaccine being provided to children across the state free of cost.
In the wake of alleged side effects of the vaccination as reported in a section of the media, the Health department appealed to people not to panic and in a tweet clarified that “MR vaccine is completely safe and without any side-effect.”
It also appealed to the citizens to come forward to join the drive to protect children from the dangerous diseases and ensure no child is left out.
“#Odisha is moving forward with the mission of 100 per cent coverage and #NoChildLeftOut, reaching out to communities across the state with particular focus on difficult and remote areas. Over 19 lakh children covered in three days. Target to cover 1.13 crore children #MRVaccination,” the department tweeted further through its official twitter handle @HFWOdisha.
After the vaccination campaign was launched January 29, complaints of side-effects of the vaccination were reported in a section of the media. The Health department has however dismissed any side-effect of the vaccine.
According to Health Department officials, around 6.7 crore children have been vaccinated in 13 states including Orissa and no side-effect has been reported.
According to health officials, the side-effect only occurs within 30 minutes of the vaccination, for which children are advised to stay at the vaccination centre for 30 minutes after the vaccination.
Officials said that all arrangements are in place for carrying out the vaccination drive smoothly.
Children between the age group 8 and 15 are being vaccinated in the ongoing drive in the state which will continue till March 26 to cover 1.13 crore children.
