Bhubaneswar: The state government Thursday directed all the collectors to instruct the additional district magistrates (ADMs) and other officers concerned to take early and appropriate action on public grievances received through social media.
Revenue and Disaster Management department’s Principal Secretary Chandra Shekhar Kumar in his letter to all the collectors stated that social media has become an integral part of good governance. It is becoming the easy and dependable channel for communication at every level. Through social media people are giving their feedback on various governmental initiatives. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has also laid emphasis on the use of social media for redressal of people’s grievances.
According to an official, the state government receives a lot of grievances through various social media sites like Twitter and Facebook, and these are being forwarded to ADMs, sub-collectors and tehsildars concerned for taking appropriate action. But it is seen that the grievances so intimated to the officers concerned are not being dealt with properly, resulting in piling up of cases.
Inaction on the part of the officials concerned is causing huge embarrassment to the government, the source said.
The letter said, “The ADMs and officers concerned under the collectors’ administration to take early and appropriate action on the public grievances received through social media and ensure that the action so taken must also be intimated to this department.”
