Narla: Bhimsen Kumar’s only orphaned grandson is affected by a neurological disorder. While he is toiling hard to make a living as well as bear his treatment expenses, the grandson is bed-ridden and waits for his return home every day.
While people of his age are retiring, this elderly man is leaving no stone unturned in taking care of his grandson. Kumar is the only support for the orphaned kid after the parents death. The elderly man is indeed a source of inspiration.
According to sources, Akshay Kumar (12), of Sargiguda Digirapada village under Narla block in Kalahandi district lost his father while he was a toddler.
While Akshay was six months old, a middleman allegedly lured his father of heavy wages and took him to Rajkot. He was then forced to work at a brick-kiln under extreme conditions. Meanwhile, he contracted some disease and died. Soon after, his mother also passed away, leaving the boy in the hands of the elderly man—Bhimsen Kumar.
Things were going smooth until Akshay was affected of a neurological disease. Slowly, his neck began to bend toward his left shoulder. Now, he is not able to move his neck around. Similarly, his left hand has also been paralyzed.
Earlier, Bhimsen had taken Akshay for treatment at Narla community health centre. However, doctors referred him to Bhawanipatna district headquarters hospital (DHH).
Doctors in the hospital said that the Akshay needs to go through an operation and advised Bhimsen to take the boy either to Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital or Vishakhapatnam hospital.
However, Bhimsen has failed to arrange money for the boy’s treatment and has been running from pillar to post to avail help. His pleas have been left unheard as no help has arrived the boy’s way. This has affected the studies of the boy who was a Class V student in a local school.
He pleaded with the administration to extend a helping hand to his grandson so that he can live a normal life. “I request the government to provide some help for my grandson,” Bhimsen said.
