Bhubaneswar: Severe heatwave condition continued to prevail at many places in the state with temperatures going past 42 degrees Celsius at six places Monday.
Boudh recorded the state’s highest temperature of 43 degrees Celsius while it was the capital city of Bhubaneswar that sizzled at a temperature of 42.5 degrees Celsius. The maximum day temperature at Bolangir was 42.2 degrees, followed by Angul (42.1 degrees), Nayagarh (42 degrees) and Titlagarh (42 degrees).
Apart from the above six stations, 11 other places witnessed day temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or more Monday. They included Talcher (41.6), Sundargarh (41.5), Jharsuguda (41.4), Baripada & Sambalpur (41.2 each), Sonepur & Bhawanipatna (41 each), Hirakud (40.9), Cuttack (40.2), Balasore (40.1) and Phulbani (40).
The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre director HR Biswas said the day temperature will remain almost at the same level in the interior pockets while the coastal areas are likely to witness a fall in the mercury after next two days.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department Monday predicted a wet spell over several parts of the country from April 26 to 30. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kilometres per hour) are very likely at isolated places over Telangana, Kerala and Mahe from April 26.
Heat wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets over Gujarat and coastal Odisha, the IMD added. On April 27, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) are very likely at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Assam, Meghalaya, central Maharashtra, Marathawada, Telangana, Kerala and Mahe.
