Keonjhar: After the low pressure-induced rain that lashed the district for past two days, the Baitarani river has inflated at Akhuapada anicut in Keonjhar Thursday, a report said.
The river’s water level started going up from 17.35 metre at 7am and reached a level of 17.36 metre by midday. However, it remained stable thereafter till 2pm.
Upstream of the river has recorded rainfall of 24.8mm at Akhuapada, 30.2mm at Anandapur, 49.4mm at Somapatana, 17.8mm at Keonjhar Sadar, 29.0mm at Thakurpatana and 69.2mm at Champua area respectively.
“As the Baitarani river is dry these days, it difficult to predict as to how much of rain water would flow downstream. Rain water could gradually escalate and reach the danger mark”, Akhuapada water resource department assistant executive engineer Sankarshan Behera informed.
