Puri: A Home Guard on duty sustained grievous injuries after he was attacked with sharp weapons by two miscreants near Masani Chandi Chhak here in this district early Tuesday morning.
Hearing the screams, passers-by rescued the Home Guard identified as Gunamani Rout and later admitted him to a hospital.
Rout sustained serious injuries on his hand, head and back.
According to sources, bombs were hurled at Gokha Sahi under Baseli police limits over land dispute two days back.
Suspecting involvement of two local youths, police had tightened security and carried out patrolling to avoid any untoward incidents further.
Meanwhile, police saw the two youths on a motorbike and chased them. However, the duo managed to escape the spot.
Later, the two youths came across the Home Guard, who was on duty near Masani Chandi Chhak. Finding him alone at around 5:30 in the morning, the duo attacked him with a sword leaving him critically-injured.
