Berhampur: Police arrested an impostor on charge of defrauding poor patients in lieu of various services on MKCG Medical College and Hospital premises Thursday.

The accused was identified as Lakshman Panda of Badagarh village under Shergarh police. limits. A case was registered in this connection at Baidyanathpur police station and the accused was produced in court, Baidyanathpur IIC Jaikrushna Patnaik said.

Police said Gobind Deep, a native of Khandahata village under Tileshwar panchayat in Boudh district, had got his wife admitted to the gynaecology ward of the hospital. The doctor prescribed some medicines and blood examination for his wife.

Gobind was on his way to the regional diagnostic centre in the hospital when Panda waylaid him and promised him that he will help him with medicines and all examinations will be done free of cost if he hands over his Aadhar card and Rs 2,500 to him.

Gobind agreed to his proposal and was preparing to hand over the money and the Aadhar card when security guard, Mini Raju noticed him and raised an alert. She and other security guard overpowered Panda and handed him to the medical outpost police.
