Bhubaneswar, Sept 20: In a bid to push GDP growth through higher capital spending, the state government has already spent close to 39 per cent of the budget estimate under infrastructure spending head in the first five months of current financial year.
“Infrastructure spending is 38.70 per cent of Budget Estimates till August, 2015 compared with 19.17 per cent during the corresponding period of previous year,” a Finance Department document said.
Similarly, spending in agriculture and allied sector is 30.16 per cent of Budget Estimates till August, 2015 compared with 24.81 per cent during corresponding period previous year.
As far as social sector spending is concerned, it stood at 31.03 per cent of Budget Estimates as against 19.46 per cent during corresponding period a year ago.
“State plan expenditure of (Rs 12, 717.72 crore) as percentage of Budget provision stood at 31.56 per cent till August, 2015 compared with (Rs 7,813.85 crore) 20.06 per cent during corresponding period previous year,” the department said.
“The overall state plan expenditure till end of August, 2015 is satisfactory,” it added.
Meanwhile, tax collection has seen buoyancy in the first five months of this fiscal with tax revenue rising by 32.54 per cent to Rs 8,600.91 crore as compared with Rs 6, 489.12 crore reported during the same period a year ago.
“Own tax revenue during the first four months is encouraging with higher collection from stamp duty and registration fees (including stamp duty on renewal of mining leases), land revenue, electricity duty, state excise and sales tax,” it said.
