Puri: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has extended insurance coverage for servitors engaged in chariot construction at the Rath Yard here.
“We have insured all servitors engaged in chariot construction against injuries and death. The insurance coverage would be valid from Snana Purnima ritual to Nabajouban darshan ritual. A servitor who dies during chariot construction will be eligible for `5 lakh insurance coverage,” said Sriamandir public relations officer Laxmidhar Pujapanda.
Sources said the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration is mulling to extend insurance coverage for any mishap on the Srigundicha temple premises during the Rath Yatra. Devotees and servitors will be included under the scheme. Notably, the temple administration had introduced insurance facility for devotees visiting the Holy City during the annual car festival in 2013-14 fiscal.
“The temple administration has paid `9.87 lakh premiums to an insurance company,” said Pujapanda.
