Bhubaneswar: The authorities at Jharpada Special Jail here Sunday placed one chief warder under suspension following the seizure of ganja and mobile phones from the prison during a surprise raid Saturday.
A preliminary enquiry has found wrongdoings by chief warder Sudrashan Barik, jail sources said. Departmental proceedings would be initiated against Barik, sources added.
“Chief warder Sudarshan Barik of special jail, Bhubaneswar, has been placed under suspension after preliminary inquiry in connection with seizure of ganja May 29. Draft charges will be made against the warder accordingly,” jail sources said.
Notably, the jail directorate has recently launched operation clean-up to check illegal activities inside prisons across the state. The directorate has received flak from several quarters for reports regarding various illegal activities by the prison inmates. The alleged involvement of some jail officials in the escape of dreaded criminal Hyder from custody has also brought much embarrassment to the prison department.
It is learnt that more than 20 mobile phones have been seized from Jharpada Special Jail here during the last couple of days.
