Bantala: Forest officials Monday recovered the carcass of a male elephant calf from Chuari reserve forest under Purunakote forest range inside Satkosia sanctuary in Angul district.
The calf aged about five years was found moving in the jungle. The matter came to fore after locals noticed the carcass and informed the forest officials.
Forest ranger Gajendra Behera, Bantala veterinarian Santosh Kumar Swain and other forest officials rushed to the spot and recovered the carcass.
However, the veterinarian failed to conduct a post-mortem on the carcass as evening had descended, it was learnt.
