Bhawanipatna: Army Major Sudhansu Pani of Kalahandi has been selected for the Sena Medal (Gallantry) for his role in ‘Operation Guddar’ against a senior Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist in Jammu and Kashmir in September 2025.
Pani is the only personnel from Odisha selected for the gallantry award among the 78 awards approved by President Droupadi Murmu for Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces personnel on the eve of Independence Day. The list includes 13 posthumous awards.
According to the report, Pani played a crucial role during the September 2025 “Operation Gudder” in Kashmir, killing terrorist Rehman Bhai, a Lashkar-e-Taiba operative.
The Sena Medal will be presented to Pani by the President in recognition of his gallantry during the operation.
Pani is from Kachhimdola village under Junagada block in Kalahandi district. He has been residing in Junagada town, near Hinjalibahali Square, with his mother, Rajkumari Pani.
Pani is currently posted in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
The recognition has sparked celebrations in Kalahandi, with residents and well-wishers expressing pride over the achievement of the Army officer from the district.
