Lanjigarh: A youth was thrashed black and blue while trying to kidnap a Class V girl at Baterlima village near here in Kalahandi district Monday evening. He was handed over to police Tuesday morning. The accused was Binod Majhi (22) of neighbouing Bhataguda village.
The girl’s family suspects the kidnap was done for the purpose of human sacrifice. But, the youth insisted that she took the girl out for marriage.
The 10-year-old girl, daughter of Anadi Majhi, was playing with her friends near the village corridor. Binod took the girl out. Police was told that he gagged the girl and tried to kidnap her.
Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the spot and overpowered Binod. They thrashed him and locked him inside a house.
A police team was informed and Binod was handed over to them the next morning. During interrogation, Binod said his plan was to marry the girl. Police suspect his intention was to rape her.
