Bhubaneswar, Feb 2: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Friday wrote another missive to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with reference to the Mahanadi issue. He urged the PM to ask the Union ministry of water resources to instruct Chhattisgarh to stop work on projects across the river immediately. The chief minister reiterated his appeal for implementation of the Supreme Court order immediately. The Supreme Court had in its order issued January 23, 2018, directed the Centre to constitute a tribunal within one month under section 4(1) of the Interstate River Water Disputes Act, 1956, based on a complaint filed by the state government November 19, 2016.
The CM’s letter read: “[If work on projects across the Mahanadi are not stopped immediately] my government would be forced to meet a situation of fait accompli, frustrating the adjudication under the provision of the Act of 1956 enacted by the Parliament pursuant to Article 262 (1) of the Constitution of India.” The CM had written to the PM November 7, November 17 and December 12 last year on the same issue.
