Boudh: In a horrific incident, a woman was branded with a firebrand by her husband after she failed to meet his dowry demands. The incident was reported from Dhadiamba village under Harbhanga police limits in Boudh district.
According to sources, Suni Behera, daughter of Gupteswar Behera of Harbhanga village, had a love marriage with Amulya Behera of Dhadiamba village three years back. Soon after the marriage, Amulya began demanding dowry and threatened Suni.
He inflicted mental and physical torture on her when she expressed inability to meet his demands. The couple broke into an altercation over the same issue Thursday.
In a fit of rage, Amulya took a firebrand and branded Suni on her chest. Hearing her screams, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law rushed to the spot and rescued her.
After getting information, Suni’s father Gupteswar visited and admitted her to a hospital. Later, he lodged a written complaint against Amulya, his mother and sister citing torture on his daughter for dowry.
Acting on Gupteswar’s complaint, police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab Amulya who was absconding after the incident.
