Malkangiri: MV-79 police in this district arrested a 28-year-old man Saturday for raping and impregnating his minor sister-in-law.
The accused has been identified as Amit Biswas, a resident of MV-82 village.
According to sources, Amit had brought his minor sister-in-law to his home for some work. He took the girl to the bank of a nearby river and raped her there.

After committing the crime, he threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anybody.
Fearing social backlash, the girl did not disclose the matter to anybody. However, after some months she fell ill and was taken to hospital by her family members.
The matter came to light when the girl was found to be pregnant at the hospital. The mother of the minor girl then lodged a complaint against her son-in-law at MV-79 PS following which police registered a case (148/24) under the POCSO Act and arrested the accused. He was forwarded to court after investigation, said MV-79 OIC Subhas Karkara.
