Bhubaneswar: A man was arrested in the City for allegedly cheating another person of Rs 55 lakh in a land deal. The accused has been identified as 38-year-old Rakesh Ranjan Beura, a resident of Bhubaneswar.
According to police reports, Rakesh introduced himself as a land broker and lured the complainant into purchasing about 23.65 acres of land in the Daruthenga and Jhujugada areas on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
Trusting his assurances, the complainant agreed on October 11, 2025, and paid Rs 55 lakh to Rakesh for facilitating the deal. However, even after a considerable time, Rakesh failed to hand over the land documents or deliver possession of the property.
The complainant later discovered that he was negotiating the sale of the same parcel of land with another developer.
Following the complaint, police launched an investigation, arrested Rakesh, and forwarded him to court.
Further investigation revealed that he had been involved in similar fraudulent activities earlier, with a previous case already registered against him at Badagada Police Station.
Laxmisagar Police has booked him under Sections 319(2), 318(4), 336(3), and 340(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
