Bhanjanagar, July 1: Police Sunday recovered the decapitated and decomposed body of a man who is suspected to have been killed for objecting to a youth making advances to a girl of his village.
Ganesh Mallick (58) of Salapateila village under Tarsingh police limits in Ganjam district, whose body was found in a forest, was missing for the past 28 days.
Bhanjanagar SDPO Utkal Keshari Das, Tarsingh IIC PK Sahu along with a scientific team reached the forest. Based on circumstantial evidences, police registered a case of murder and started a probe. The mortal remains were sent for autopsy to Berhampur MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that a youth along with his aides allegedly killed Mallick after he objected to the former talking to the girl.
According to sources, Pintu Pradhan of neighbouring Kandhasarala village was trying to talk and get close to a girl of Mallick’s village May 31. After spotting the two, Mallick objected to Pintu’s advances and scolded him. This had led to an altercation following which Pintu had threatened to eliminate Mallick.
Later, Mallick went missing from the house June 4. As per police, Pintu along with his aides abducted Mallick and took him to the forest where they first assaulted and killed him and then decapitated him.
They dumped the body in a bush and the severed head at another place in the forest.
Since then, the police were on the lookout for Mallick after a missing person complaint was lodged.
Some women on their way to pluck leaves from the forest Sunday, spotted the body and alerted the villagers who informed the police. Soon, the police team arrived in the village and identified the body to that of Mallick based on the clothes as it was completely decomposed.
No arrest has been made in this connection.
