Kodala: A scientific team started a probe into the death of a man who was shot dead by miscreants at Mathasarasingi under Kodala police limits in Ganjam district late Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Rajendra Parida (42) alias Jyoti of J Chhachina village.
A scientific team led by Chhatrapur scientific officer Akshay Kumar Samal and Mousami Dalei reached the murder spot and launched a probe. The team seized the blood-stained soil from the spot and took it for examination. The team also took the three bullets and five cartridges seized by the cops during probe for lab examination.
On the other hand, police intensified the manhunt to nab the two miscreants behind the probe.
“Even as the reason behind the gruesome murder is yet to be known, an effort is on to nab the two miscreants after which all matter will be clear,” Kodala IIC Sushant Kumar Sethy said.
On the other hand, family members performed the final rites of Parida after cops handed over the body after autopsy.
It may be noted here that the incident occurred while Rajendra had gone to Mathasarasingi on his bike.
Meanwhile, two bike-borne youths, believed to be following him opened fire at Parida near J. Chhachinha square Sunday evening.
The first bullet missed Parida after which he ran inside a hardware store and downed the shutters to save his life. However, the accused duo lifted the shutter and fired at him again.
Still enraged, the assailants then pulled Parida out of the building and hit his head against a cemented structure, killing him on the spot.
According to sources, Parida worked at a textile mill in Surat and had returned to the village 15 days ago. Initial reports suggest that the murder was fallout of past enmity.
