Mayurbhanj BJD workers warned against groupism

Baripada: In the backdrop of reverses that the BJD had suffered in Mayurbhanj district, Jajpur MLA Pranab Prakash Das, the party observer in the district, attended a meeting of the party’s extended executive body here in Baripada Saturday.

In his first visit to the district, Das admitted that the party’s debacle in the elections was due to factionalism. Warning troublesome party workers, Das said there is no place for groupism in the BJD.

He also said that although he is staying in Bhubaneswar, he will look into how party leaders are working in Mayurbhanj.

Das also insisted on party workers working for the party in the district instead of coming to Bhubaneswar to meet him.

During the last panchayat election and general elections, the BJD suffered reverses despite having a good grassroots organisation. The BJP has no grassroots organisation, but it won in the district.

Meanwhile, the BJD has started attempts to iron out differences in its organisation in the district ahead of civic elections in Baripada, Rairangpur, Karanjia and Udala.

Some workers said that Das has been tasked with the state party organisation and will not be able to spare much time for Mayurbhanj.

BJD’s district president Debasish Mohanty, Rajya Sabha MP Sarojini Hembram, Revenue Minister Sudam Marndi, MLAs Rajkishore Das, Basanti Hembram, Pranab Balabantray, former Assembly Speaker Sananda Marandi, former MLA Ganeswar Patra and other BJD leaders attended the meet.
