Angul: A minor boy died while his father is struggling for his life after the father-son duo was bitten by a snake at Kantamegha village of Talagada panchayat in Angul district late Wednesday night.
The deceased has been identified as 12 years old Tuku Gadnayak. His father Sukant Gadnayak is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
According to reports, Sukant and Tuku were asleep Wednesday night when a snake — presumably a common krait — bit them. Their family members, instead of taking them to the hospital immediately, called in a sorcerer to treat them.
Only after their condition deteriorated, they were rushed to Angul district headquarters hospital (DHH) where the doctors declared Tuku dead on arrival. After administering primary treatment, Sukant was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack in serious condition.
