Anandapur: An 11-year-old boy was killed and his mother and younger brother were critically injured after a rain-soaked mud wall collapsed on them late Friday night at Kolhabeda village under Ghasipura block of Keonjhar district.
The deceased was identified as Raja Jena, and the injured as his mother, Anjana Jena, 30 and his younger brother, Aditya Jena, 6.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom and mourning in the village.
According to reports, Anjana was sleeping with her two children when the wall suddenly caved in at midnight, trapping them under the debris.
Raja died on the spot, while Anjana and Aditya sustained critical injuries. They were rushed by family members to Anandapur Hospital.
Villagers said continuous rainfall had weakened the mud wall, leading to its collapse. Police handed over the body to the family members after conducting a post-mortem examination.
A case (49/25) has been registered at the Ghasipura police station.
