Dasamantapur: A 17-year-old college girl allegedly died by suicide after being mentally harassed by a group of youths who threatened to circulate morphed photographs linking her with a male friend, police said.

The incident was reported from Bageipadar village under Gadiaguda panchayat in Dasamantapur block of Koraput district. According to the family, four youths allegedly threatened the girl that they will circulate her purportedly fabricated photographs and spread false rumours making those go viral in the village, which reportedly caused her severe mental distress.

Unable to cope with the pressure, the girl allegedly ended her life by hanging at her residence Friday morning. Her family lodged a written complaint at Dasamantapur police station, citing call records as evidence and seeking strict action against all the accused.

Police seized the body and sent it to Koraput district headquarters hospital (DHH) for post-mortem. An unnatural death case has been registered. Further investigation is underway, and the exact cause of death will be confirmed after receipt of the post-mortem report, police said.
