Rourkela: A minor girl allegedly committed suicide by dousing kerosene and then setting her ablaze at Panda Colony under Plant Site police station here Friday. However, the cause of her suicide was not yet clear.
The deceased Nirupama Mahalik (17) was staying with maternal uncle and aunt. She had failed in the annual HSC exam.
Police started an investigation into the matter. Mahalik hailed from Bhadrak. For the last few days, she had been staying at Kirtan Mahalik, her uncle’s house. Kirtan works in a private company while his wife works in an Anganwadi centre. He was staying earlier in Plant Site area and had shifted to Orampada Panda Colony about a month ago.
The couple was out for their work in the morning while Nirupama was alone at home. Locals had seen the girl moving on the terrace of the house at 12 noon.
