Deogarh, May 5: The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) members Saturday foiled a marriage involving a 17-year-old boy and a 27-year-old woman.
The unusual incident was reported from Talabahali village under Barkote block in this district.
According to sources, DCPO Romio Mahapatra along with a team reached the village and rescued the minor boy when he was about to tie the knot. Local sarpanch and some social activists alerted the DCPU officials in this regard.
The officials warned the girl’s parents about the consequences of minor marriage and made them sign a written declaration that stated the couple would not get the two married until the boy becomes a major.
