Baliguda: Tension ran high at Sudra here in Kandhamal district after a minor girl was run over by an over-speeding tipper Sunday. Angry locals placed the body on the highway and staged a demonstration.
The deceased was identified as Bharati Mallick, daughter of an Anganwadi worker.
Sources said, the incident occurred while the vehicle was en route to Khamankhol from Barakhama. The vehicle ran over the girl while she was playing after the driver lost control. Irate locals seized the vehicle and detained the driver.
On being informed, a fire tender team reached the village and tried to pacify the mob and take the body for post-mortem. However, the agitators refused to hand over the body and continued their agitation. Police had not reached the village and the agitation was continuing till the filing of this report.
