Ramnaguda: A cotton farmer of Narayanguda village under Ramnaguda panchayat in Rayagada district Sunday sought the intervention of the police after some miscreants damaged three acres of standing crop, bringing him huge loss.
Demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants and compensation for the loss, he suffered, the farmer, Sujan Sabar, lodged a complaint with the local police. Acting on his complaint, police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the miscreants.
According to reports, Sabar had cultivated cotton on three acres of his farmland by taking loans. He had hoped of a bumper harvest. The cotton was good and was scheduled to be harvested next month.
Sabar had calculated that the harvest would fetch him at least Rs 70, 000-Rs 80, 000 profit.
He went to his field Sunday morning, only to find all his crop ruined to the ground. The miscreants had uprooted small plants while some plants were cut from their stems. Worried Sabar, then appraised fellow villagers who then suggested him to go ahead with the police complaint.
Villagers said Sabar had a land dispute with some people near his farm and the act could be related to previous enmity. They demanded strict action against the people who damaged the crop.
Sabar had spent at least Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 to grow cotton on an acre of land. The incident spread outrage in the area for a while.
“I have taken loans. Now, I’m worried to repay my loan. I want the law to make justice,” Sabar said.
