Bhubaneswar: More than 1,000 COVID-19 patients in Odisha have been administrated by convalescent plasma therapy in the last two months since the state’s first plasma bank was set up at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
This was informed by the State Health & Family Welfare Department, Thursday. The department thanked all personnel involved in carrying out the feat.
In Odisha five dedicated COVID-19 hospitals including SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, Ispat General Hospital in Rourkela, MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur and VIMSAR in Burla are providing plasma treatment to critical coronavirus patients.
Notably, plasma therapy for COVID-19 treatment was launched in Odisha at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik July 15.
The therapy involves the separation of antibodies from a person cured of the novel coronavirus and its subsequent infusion into the vein of the COVID-19 patient.
The procedure requires volunteers who have recovered from COVID-19 and are above the age of 18. They can donate plasma, the yellowish liquid component of the blood between the first and fourth months after recovery.
