Murder suspected: Police exhume ward member’s body

Brahmanigaon/Daringbadi: The Brahmanigaon police under Daringibadi block in Kandhamal district dug out a ward member’s body as part of an investigation after 84 days of his burial in Katingia village.

Following complaints that Radhir Kumar Bastray, Katingia gram panchayat’s ward member, was murdered, a team of cops from Brahmanigaon police station dug out the body.

According to reports, Bastray and his family had gone to church to attend a prayer service March 31. Half-way through the prayer, he went out of the church due to some work. However, when he did not return home, his family members and neighbours conducted a search and found him in an isolated place lying in a pool of blood.

Bastray, who had sustained grievous injuries throughout his body, was admitted to the local hospitals in Katingia and Brahmanigaon. He was then shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur and later to Bhubaneswar hospital.

However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way to Bhubaneswar April 1.

Believing reports that he was attacked by a bull, the bereaved family had buried his body as per Christian

faith April 2.
