Bhubaneswar, August 25: Utkal University Monday called a meeting of principals from 153 colleges to familiarise them with the process of applying for accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
Former vice-chancellor Aditya Padhi acted as the resource head and oriented the principals on preparation of self study reports and letters of intent and the process of forwarding the application to NAAC.
NAAC has mandated that it will not receive any application after September 30 and has also stated that if colleges and higher education institutes that do not get NAAC tags by the end of this year will not be eligible for funding from
the Central government.
“The college principals have come here from nine districts. We have oriented them on the procedure they would need to follow to get accreditation from NAAC. Till now, 67 colleges affiliated to Utkal University have applied for NAAC tag. The rest will send their applications soon,” said college development council director Santosh Tripathy.
Utkal University vice-chancellor Ashok Das inaugurated the conference and asked the principals to be prepared for the visit of NAAC peer teams, and asked them to apply for accreditation prior to the deadline. “NAAC tag is very important for any higher education institute. The principals should act according to the plan and get the tag in time,” said Das.
The orientation programme was a daylong affair. Higher education department joint secretary Ajay Nayak was present at the programme that was organised at PG Council Hall of the varsity Tuesday.
