Chandbali: A team of NDRF has reached Dhamra in Bhadrak district Thursday to start rescue operation for a missing fisherman and a boat in the sea.
A fishing boat carrying seven fishermen had capsized in the Bay of Bengal near Abdul Kalam Island Tuesday. Six fishermen were rescued, but another fisherman Jhadeswar Maiti (30) was untraceable.
Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhy had sought help of NDRF in the rescue operation.
An 11-member NDRF team along with necessary equipment reached here in the evening.
Boat associations of Balasore and Kasapha had urged the state government to rescue the fisherman.
This rescue team, to be led by tehsildar Premashu Chand, will launch the operation soon.
Scuba diver Sabir Bux will join the rescue operation, the tehsildar hinted. Speed boats of Dhamra marine police station, private boats, fibre boats and some fishermen will be deployed to trace the missing fisherman.
Though intensive efforts were made by Dhamra and Chandanipal boats owners’ associations for two days, they were not successful. Stormy weather and choppy waters were major hurdles in the rescue operation, it was learnt.
