Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Tuesday appealed people of the state to join him in silent prayer to be organised at 6 pm Wednesday to boost the morale of Covid warriors who work day and night to protect lives of people from the virus.
The human race is going through one of the toughest situations since time immemorial. The Covid pandemic has challenged the human race like nothing before and every country is facing a very serious situation, Naveen said.
Stating that India has more than 50,000 new infections every day, he said, “It is the highest daily addition by any country in the world. It shows how serious the situation is in our country. There is no room for complacency.”
“Tomorrow Odisha will cross 25,000 recoveries. This is a momentous occasion in our fight against the Covid pandemic. Together we have been able to save more lives than in other parts of the country. Our fatality rate is at 0.57 per cent which is lowest in the country. For us every life is precious and saving each person is our mission.”
The Chief Minister praised thousands of Covid warriors who work round the clock with commitment and dedication. They have sacrificed hugely to keep people safe while some of them have also sacrificed their lives in this deadly fight, he pointed out.
“To honour and commemorate the supreme sacrifices of our Covid warriors, the CM will lead a silent prayer in their memory. He appealed 4.5 crore sisters and brothers of Odisha to join this silent prayer at 6 pm Wednesday,” a release from the CM’s Office said.
“The prayer will be followed by an oath taking that will remind all of us to act responsibly and strictly follow Covid guidelines to keep ourselves and our families safe,” he added.
