Sambalpur: A wanted criminal Musim Akhtar was injured in an encounter near City Railway station here in the wee hours of Monday.
Musim, who sustained a bullet injury on his right leg, has been admitted at Sambalpur district headquarters hospital (DHH) here. Police recovered a 9mm pistol, one bullet and Rs 4000 from his possession.
According to a source, Dhanupali police were tipped off about the presence of Musim near City station. Dhanupali police and a team of special squad raided the location. Seeing the cops, Musim tried to give them a slip and in the process opened fire at them. In retaliation, police also opened fire at him, leaving him injured in the gun fight. In the exchange of fire, one ASI also suffered bullet injuries.
Police sources said that Musim has more than 15 cases pending against him at different police stations.
