Bhubaneswar: In a bid to support the Centre’s move in favour of a cashless economy, e-ticket programme was inaugurated at Nandankanan Zoological Park here Thursday, to mark the 57th foundation day of the zoo.
The e-ticket programme was inaugurated by principal secretary of forest and environment department Suresh Chandra Mohapatra. The cashless ticket system started around 5pm Thursday. People can now book tickets for their visit to the zoo along with botanical garden and rest house without waiting in long queues. The park was opened December 29, 1960.
Mohapatra also inaugurated the CCTV cameras, the fox enclosure inside the zoo. A statue of first tigress of Nanadankanan Kanan was also unveiled.
For the first time the family of Nandan and Megha, who gave birth to two cubs April 20, 2016, was open to the public. Apart from Mohapatra, zoo director Sisir Kumar Acharya, chief wildlife warden Siddhanta Das and deputy director Jayanta Das were present on the occasion.
The CCTV cameras have been installed by Electronic Corporation of India at the cost of `91 lakh.
The new fox enclosure was built at a cost of `25 lakh and it was headed by Range officer Amulya Kumar Parida.
