Cuttack: Local police have arrested as many as seven persons in connection with the death of a girl student who allegedly died by suicide in Mahanga area of Cuttack district after one of her female friends clicked her obscene photos and shared them with her male friends, a said source Wednesday.
According to the source, the deceased girl — who hailed from Koliatha village under Mahanga police limits in Salipur — was studying Plus-III science at a college in Cuttack district.
The source said that the main accused girl is one of the deceased’s friends who hails from Gadamadhupur in Jajpur district. The accused had once visited her house when some guests had come to the girl student’s house with a marriage proposal. The accused had helped her in wearing a saree at that time and also allegedly took some private pictures of her, added the source.
The accused later allegedly shared the photos with her male friends. After getting the private photos of the girl student, she was allegedly blackmailed by them and pressurised to keep physical relationship.
The source said that the girl died by suicide fearing public humiliation and blackmail.

An FIR in this regard has been lodged by the deceased’s family members following which police started a probe and arrested seven persons including the main accused.
