Odisha weather report July 19: Cyclonic circulation persists over Bay of Bengal; IMD predicts heavy rainfall over next four days

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar in its weather report of July 19 informed that a cyclonic circulation persists over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal.

Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal over next 24 hours.

The weather agency also issued Orange Warning for heavy rainfall.

Upto 8.30 AM of July 20: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), heavy to very heavy Rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Gajapati and Ganjam districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Bolangir, Subarnapur, Sambalpur, Angul, Nayagarh, Boudh, Puri and Khurda districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of south Odisha and at many places over the districts of north Odisha.

From 8.30 AM of July 20 to 8.30 AM of July 21: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Cuttack, Boudh, Subarnapur, Bolangir and Bargarh districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of south Odisha, north interior Odisha and at many places over the districts of north coastal Odisha.

Impact and action suggested for Orange Warning

  1. Temporarily water logging is likely in low-lying areas.
  2. Poor visibility during intense spells of rain and traffic congestion in urban areas.
  3. Possibility of wall collapse of vulnerable Kutcha houses and some damage of Kutchha road. Avoid staying in vulnerable houses.
  4. Traffic advisory may be seen for movement in your destination.
  5. Possibility of Landslides in vulnerable hilly areas especially in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam and Gajapati districts
  6. Possibility of inundation in low-lying areas roads in some blocks of Malkangiri and Koraput districts due to the continuation of heavy rain activity.
  7. Arrangements for drainage of excess water from nursery bed and preparations for sowing of paddy crops may be done.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershower is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 32 degree Celsius and 25 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 33.8 degree Celsius was recorded at Baripada while the lowest minimum temperature of 22.2 degree Celsius was recorded at Nabarangpur, the weather report of July 19 informed.
