One dead in car-bus collision

Redhakhol (Sambalpur): One person died and eight others were injured at Betagarh village under this police limits as a car and bus collided head on Sunday morning. The deceased was Rakesh Pandey, 43, the car driver from Balangir.

Among the injured, four were travelling in the car and the rest were bus passengers. The victims from the car were Smruti Ranjan Sahoo(27), Devraj Nag (25), Nishikanta Jena (24) and Om Prakash (18) of Balangir.
The inured bus passengers were Girish Sahu (35) of Kalanda Bangu in Dhenkanal district, Ramesh Rout (52) of Manpur, Nathila Sethy (60) of Kankanapada village under Redhakhol police limits and Golapi Dehury (38) of Banarnali village under Kishorenagar police limits in Angul district.

While the injured have been rushed to Redhakhol hospital, Girish Sahu has been shifted to VIMSAR, Burla as his condition deteriorated.

Sources said the Hyundai car from Balangir was on its way to Cuttack. A private bus was heading towards Sambalpur from Angul. The bus, while overtaking a truck, collided head on with the car. The car driver died on the spot. Police recovered the body and started an investigation.
