Bhubaneswar: Coming down heavily on Petroleum Conservation and Research Association (PCRA), state chapter, for putting up hoardings illegally all across the city, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) sent a notice to it Saturday demanding to deposit a fine of Rs 1 crore within seven days from the date of notice issuance.
The PCRA along with all oil companies is organising Sunday’s Cyclothon, a cycle rally. With a view to create awareness, a number of hoardings and banners have been put up all across the city.
The BMC has found as many as 2,000 kiosks or small sized banners in BMC area being put up without taking any prior permission and payment of advertisement fees. So, the civic body has levied the penalty for violating the provisions of BMC Advertisement Regulation, 2006.
In another development, tension ran high at some places as some people had objected to the removal of such illegal small-sized banners by the eviction squad of BMC. BMC South East Zone is said to have registered a case against the protesters for obstructing government work.
“If the violator institution has not deposited the fine money during the given period, legal action will be taken against it,” a BMC official said.
When contacted, state coordinator, PCRA, Debasis Ransingh said they were presently busy for ensuring success of the programme. After the programme it would be found out whose fault was this, indirectly hinting at the event management group. PNN
