Chhatrapur/Bhanjanagar: The Bhanjanagar police in Ganjam busted an interstate mobile phone theft racket apprehending 21 Bengali-speaking persons in Bhanjanagar.
As informed by the Additional Superintendent of Police Ranjan Kumar Dey Saturday, about 1066 mobile phones, 1275 batteries, 425 cellphone motherboards, 5 tablets, imitation jewelries and Rs 10000 cash were seized during raid conducted by the Bhanjanagar team.
The culprits, all of them residents of West Bengal, were forwarded to the court for further proceedings. Police have registered a case no. 92/2026, launching a probe looking for clues on international links between them and also to investigate further into the case.
SDPO Deepak Kumar Mishra said, suspicion arose among the locals who found a strange pattern in their lifestyle that did not match with their earnings. Police, on being informed, conducted raids and nabbed all of them.
The culprits failed to provide any satisfactory response on the possessed valuables which then prompted the police officials arresting them instantly.
Mishra also warned the public through the press conference not to sell off their broken mobile phones to unknown people as parts of these phones that could well be used for illegal activities. He added that cellphone users should destroy their phones once they find it unfit instead of selling them to unknown people.
