Boudh: Police in Boudh district have destroyed 83.79 tonnes of seized cannabis, valued at around Rs 419 crore, completing 100 per cent of the district’s disposal target under Operation Dahan, officials said.
Of the total 83,790.155 kg destroyed in four phases, 71,131.555 kg was disposed of in the first three rounds. The remaining 12,658.600 kg was destroyed at the Balangir incinerator October 3.
The latest disposal followed a court-issued certificate under Section 52-A of the NDPS Act and was carried out under the supervision of the Boudh SP, who heads the District Drug Disposal Committee. Police said the exercise involved senior district officers, officers-in-charge of seven police stations and personnel from four outposts. The district has now decided to undertake periodic disposal of seized narcotics in accordance with statutory provisions.
