Bantala: A day after a girl of Bantala area in Angul district ended her life after her boyfriend circulated her intimate videos and pictures, police swung into action and started investigation into incident.
The investigating team have seized a mobile phone and detained a mediator who is behind the circulation of the video. Efforts are on to delete the video, police said.
Police’s preliminary investigation revealed that the girl and the youth, a married man, had a three-year old affair. Another youth from the girl’s village acted as a mediator. The girl made acquaintance with the youth when he used to visit the mediator’s house.
As the girl did not have a personal phone she often used her family phone to talk with him. Sometimes, the girl was using the mediator’s phone for video calling the youth. The trio often went for picnic and the entire cost was borne by the youth.
“We have interrogated the mediator and also seized his mobile phone. Call details have been asked for. Stringent action will soon be taken against whoever found guilty,” said IIC Sabyasachi Rout.
The girl had committed suicide Thursday night by consuming poison after her lover uploaded an intimate scene of them on social media platforms. Her family members also saw the video clip which made her take the extreme step.
The police handed over the body to the family after post-mortem Friday.
