BHUBANESWAR: Temperatures are rising rapidly, but one neither needs a chilled beer and 208 calories to beat the heat nor a glass of soft drink with lots of ice. This summer youth of the city prefer a healthier lifestyle by trying delicious mocktails.
Orissa Post interacted with a few celebrity chefs, nutritionists and youth to delve deeper into the subject. Abbas, chef of a trending food lounge, said, “Mocktails are very simple to make and all you need to have is bit of imagination and correct taste buds. It can be a mix of fruit juice, soda, ice, cherries, olives and cucumber.”
Tithi Sarkar, a regular customer said, “I simply love the mix of Guava juice, lime, tabasco pepper sauce and coriander seasoned with masala. This mixture turned out to be the highlight as the taste was outstanding.”
“Just think of these concoctions as fancy alternatives to plain lemonade or iced tea. Then mix, pour, and raise a toast to summer,” said Malavika Simon, an entrepreneur who often holds business meets where she orders mocktails for herself and her clients.
Event planner Sonu Dhawan’s summer escapades are packed with a variety of mocktails as her clients are young college boys and girls. “It’s safe and fun to have and tastes great too,” he said.
Chef Sanam, who runs a Restro cafe in Patia Mocktail, said, “Mocktail is a clever invention and it clearly mocks cocktails, while giving one the flavour of all summer fruits as well as of other exotic fruit syrups.”
Nutritionist Sagarika Mishra feels that youngsters are more into mocktails as they have realised its health benefits. “Those who are trying to live healthy are definitely ordering mocktails to appease their taste buds and satiate their need for a coolant.”
