Bhubaneswar, April 17: Noted writer Sarada Prasad Mishra passed away Sunday at a city-based hospital in Orissa. He was 55.
Sources said, Mishra had complained of chest pain, following which he was rushed to the hospital where he breathed his last. He had been battling with cancer over the past few years.
Mishra had received Orissa Sahitya Akademi Award for short stories in 2011. He has also bagged several awards, including Sri Mishra Bhatru Smruti Purashakar, Shibram Patra Smruti Samman, Time Pass Book Purashkar and Kadambini award.
Some of his popular story compilations are ‘Ratira Ajab Drushya’, ‘Ahuri Uparaku Hata’, and ‘Apahancha Ilakara Adhiswara’. He has authored books in Oriya and English such as ‘Golapi Smrutira Kabita’, ‘My Word Book’, ‘English Tenses With A New Taste’ and ‘Dynamic Essays and Letters’.
He also contributed to editing autobiographies of former governor of Orissa MM Rajendran and the present governor SC Jamir.
He has worked as public relations officer (PRO) to the Governor and is a winner of several coveted awards for his literary works.
The writer, who was born in 1962, was deeply fascinated with Oriya literature from his childhood. Many great literary personalities expressed condolences on his demise.
