Cuttack: Sisu Bharati School (SBS) and New Stewart School (NSS) emerged champions in the Bhagaban Das Memorial Junior Inter-School and Basant Das Memorial Senior Inter-School football tournaments respectively here Friday.
In the junior segment, SBS spanked Orissa Police 4-1 in a lop-sided final to clinch the title. Sahil Kumar Nayak was adjuged player of the match.
In the senior segment NSS pipped Bhakta Madhu Vidyapitha by a solitary goal in a keenly-contested final. SK Amin bagged the best player of the match award.
Wrestling meet
Utkal Karate School will host the 37th Boys’ and 21st Girls’ Junior and Sub-Junior Freestyles and 63rd Men’s and 21st Women’s Freestyles State Wrestling Championships in Bhubaneswar, January 20-21.
One hundred fifty participants and 50 officials across the state will take part in 37 categories of the tournament. Based on the performances here players will be selected for the national level tournaments.
Top teams win
Falcon Fighters, Badabil Tigers, ABC Warriors and LBN Lions won their respective matches on the inaugural day of the Orissa Premier Badminton League at Cuttack, Friday. Fighters scraped past Dhenkanal Defenders 3-2, Tigers spanked Barabati Stars 4-1, Warriors thrashed Kalibnga Strikers 4-1 and Lions edged past Puri Smash Kings 3-2.
Nimpur win
Nimpur Sports Club, Cuttack defeated Friends Club, Talcher by 32 runs in a match of the NTPC cricket tournament at Talcher, Friday.
Opting to bat first Nimpur were bundled out for 166 in 28.5 overs. In reply Friends Club were restricted on 134.
